Rose Oil – A Medicinal Treasure with a Thousand-Year History
According to Dr. Nadejda Tzoneva-Tyutyulkova, rose oil not only plays an important role in perfumery, but its medicinal use dates back at least five thousand years.
The uses of rose are extremely diverse. Rose oil and other rose-based products have long been valued for their healing properties. Their origins can be traced back to the cradle of human civilization. Hippocrates and his disciples (5th–6th centuries BC) already made extensive use of rose products in healing practices—especially in steam baths, sitz baths, and suppositories.
The famous physician Avicenna wrote about rose oil:
“This oil increases brain power and mental acuity.”
Rose attar, a highly concentrated rose oil, has been used to treat headaches caused by various conditions:
- Feverish states
- Sun exposure and heatstroke
- Excessive alcohol consumption
- Injuries, concussions, and migraines
Avicenna recommended the use of warm rose oil for patients with open head wounds, cranial trauma, or brain injuries. It was also applied to wounds and damaged nerves to speed up healing and regeneration.
In Modern Medicine: The Healing Power of the Rose
The rose has become a favorite natural remedy among traditional healers, and its rose oil has a long history of medicinal use. Today, it is used to support various health conditions, such as:
- Gynecological cramps before menstruation
- Hormonal imbalances during menopause
- Emotional imbalance and mood swings
- Nervous exhaustion and anxiety
Rose petals, rose water, and rose attar (concentrated rose oil) have similar therapeutic applications.
Skin Care
Rose oil and rose water are suitable for all skin types, but they are especially beneficial for dry, sensitive, and mature skin. They have toning and astringent effects on the capillaries just beneath the surface of the skin, helping to reduce redness caused by broken or enlarged blood vessels.
It is important that the product contains authentic natural raw materials, as synthetic additives have no therapeutic value.
Rose Water – A Natural Wonder for the Skin
Rose water can be used in your everyday cosmetic routine:
- Cleansing and refreshing the skin
- Soothing irritated skin
- Toning and providing antiseptic benefits
This makes it a truly versatile ally for both natural skincare and holistic health.
