Točník and Žebrák
Točník Castle, a state castle, was originally built as a small hunting lodge. Only after the Lower Žebrák Castle burned down after 1395 was a majestic castle built by Wenceslas IV. The castle is a magnet for visitors, who can enjoy wonderful walks, views, and, above all, historical tours. Two bears have been housed in an enclosure under the bridge leading to the castle. Originally, they were always at the castle, but then they were relocated, and now, after a few years, this tradition has returned to the castle. Unlike Točník, the State Žebrák Castle is already a ruin. Žebrák Castle was originally built as a guard castle on the roads to Křivoklát and Zbiroh. King Charles IV despised this castle because his firstborn son, Václav, died there. After the castle burned down and he abandoned its reconstruction, it now lies in ruins. However, the view from the tower of the surrounding area and Točník Castle opposite is beautiful. The ruined walls serve as a reminder of the castle's less than happy history.
